Inspiring Member of the Month - YAW FRIMPONG, FCILT

Mr. Yaw Frimpong, a beacon of positivity happens to be one of our proud Chartered Fellows. He has etched his legacy as a seasoned professional in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), where he has dedicated nearly three decades of his career to the utility distribution industry. With a career marked by progression and excellence, Mr. Frimpong has left an indelible mark within the organization.
In May 2018, Mr. Yaw Frimpong took on the role of Director of Materials and Transport at ECG. This pivotal appointment was a testament to his wealth of experience and knowledge in materials and transport management, along with the trust placed in his leadership.
His career journey within ECG began in 1995 as an Assistant Accountant, reflecting his strong foundation in financial and administrative matters. His exceptional career growth within the company saw him rise through the ranks, starting with roles such as Store Superintendent, Senior Stores Superintendent, and culminating in the position of General Manager in charge of transport. In 2005, he was recognized and honoured as the best worker in the Materials and Transport Section of the Ashanti East Region, a testament to his exemplary work and leadership.
Education has been Yaw’s bedrock and an essential part of his professional journey. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which he earned from the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2012. He further pursued and completed the CILT Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport at the KNUST School of Business in 2014. These academic achievements have significantly enriched his understanding of logistics and supply chain management, making him a valuable asset in his role at ECG.

He provided the needed leadership in the transformation of the manual transport management system in ECG to an automated system in 2012, resulting to an immense financial and operational benefits to the company. Again, in the same year, 2012, he championed the procurement and the successful deployment of the Materials Management Module of the ERP SAP S/4 HANA & FIORI in the management of inventory in ECG. The resultant effects on ECG operations have been tremendous.
Yaw became an Affiliate and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Ghana in 2014 and 2017 respectively. And in this year 2024, Yaw has been elected as Chartered Fellow of the Institute; highlighting his affiliation with a globally recognized professional body and his commitment to the logistics and transport field.
Over the span of his impressive 28-year career in the Electricity Distribution industry, Mr. Yaw Frimpong’s dedication and expertise have not gone unnoticed. He directly and indirectly ensured impartation of practical training to more than fifty students on internship programmes and several National Service Personnel who were posted to his section in the Ashanti East Region.
Mr. Yaw Frimpong’s enduring commitment to human resources development played a significant role in the award of Corporate CPD Commitment Certificate to ECG by the CILT Ghana 2018.
“Throughout my own personal career journey, I have met and worked with many wonderful people and I thank each one of them. Many challenges that I have overcome are because of their rich assistance and advice given me” – said Yaw.
Mr. Frimpong’s 28 years span of career has taught him these three (3) lessons:
- Failure is part and parcel of life, and one has to learn from it and move on positively.
- That application of knowledge with integrity is honourable, and then
- Transferring of knowledge and sharing into other people’s knowledge and expertise makes one relevant to situations and to his/her environment.
