Women in Logistics and Transport

Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT Ghana), a women’s wing of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT International), was launched in Accra, Ghana on December 5, 2013under the auspices of CILT Ghana. WiLAT Ghana, seeks to develop a high level strategic network of women members both active or retired from the following sectors: Logistics, Transportation, Freight Forwarding, Oil and Gas and the Supply Chain Management to promote their career and gender advancement and empowerment through education and networking culminating in Global partnerships among women.

This women’s wing of CILT Ghana was later outdoored by the Minister of Transport, Hon. Dzifa Attivor during the 2014 CILT Africa Forum in Ghana. The CILT International’s recognition of the tremendous roles women play in the supply chain, logistics and transport industry all over the world; gave birth to WiLAT chapters within CILT Territorial Organisations and Branches all over the world including Ghana.

With the inspirations from the CILT International office in the U.K and other institute branches such as Nigeria, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Pakistan where WiLAT exists, CILT Ghana was able to launch its WiLAT.

Vision of WiLAT

‘’To be a leading advocate for active participation of Women in Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport through The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)’’.

Mission of WiLAT

To promote the status of women in Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport, to bring together those who support talent and career development of women and to provide a support network and mentoring opportunities for women in the sector.

We’re enjoying great success in cultivating a spirit of togetherness to thrive in a male dominated industry (Aisha Ali Ibrahim, WiLAT Global Convenor at the WiLAT Africa Regional Conference March 2014).

WiLAT Membership

By June 2014 WiLAT had over 1600 members in 14 countries globally and we are still growing. We are enjoying great success in cultivating a “spirit of togetherness to survive in a male dominated industry” (Aisha Ali Ibrahim, WiLAT Global Convener at the WiLAT Africa Regional Conference March 2014)

There are a number of benefits for individuals to become members of the WiLAT.Most important is that; benefits for one person are different from other members. Some are most interested in professional recognition, some in professional education and others in business networking.

WiLAT membership is fully dependent on membership of CILT. Female members of CILT automatically become members of their local chapter of WiLAT. Male members of CILT or anyone interested in WiLAT but not yet a member of CILT may become an Affiliate of WiLAT.
